Tiffany Gregory, took drugs and died. She collapsed in the bedroom of the apartment of Ann Arbor Assistant City attorney Ron Plunkett. Plunkett's girlfriend, Tracy Corson had supplied some of the drugs that comprised the "lethal combination of cocaine, heroin and alcohol" that killed Tiffany Gregory. Miss Corson has just completed a 2 year prison term for her role in supplying the drugs that killed Miss Gregory.
Attorney Plunkett was a US Army Reserve medic who was scheduled to to be deployed to Iraq later in the year. His admitted addiction to crack cocaine has cost him his license to practice law, for now, perhaps permanently depending on the outcome of the criminal case that he Michigan Supreme Court greenlighted this week. The Michigan Supremes held 4-3, that Plunkett can be prosecuted as an aider and abetter for supplying the money and transportation used to obtain the drugs that killed the young woman who dropped dead in his bedroom.

Wedsnesday night I was talking about my own set of woes and how the Universe continues to put my personal problems and defects of character in my path--I suspect that I am obligated to make some important changes in the way I approach my life and career. By the grace of God, I don't have a 22 year old dead girl on my conscience (lots of other stuff, though) but I certaily can find many other commonalities between Mr. Plunkett and myself. Deadly arrogance comes to mind.

I am in pergatory, riding out a 2 year suspension, working menial jobs to help support wife and two kids and have plenty of time to ruminate about my defects and what got me here. Looking at this guys story, I know I am lucky since I put myself in plenty of bad situations, being a hot shot lawyer with lots of cash and a ravenous appetite for hard drugs. Now, I just keep my head up, move forward and try and be a decent person, that's all I can do, today.

ReplyDeleteI thought about something awhile back, as a past chair of our local assistance to lawyers committee -- I know the help out there is pretty well directed to helping lawyers with substance abuse and not really the more complex issues relating to not being able to make financial amends and return in some way...I'm wondering about something more specific. A Way back, help to find a second life. Keep reading. I'm grappling with some ideas, you might be able to contribute.

ReplyDeleteI think Ron Plunkett is doing life in prison, a psychic prison that will follow him the balance of his days. Now can Plunkett transform this awful thing? It is the only question left for Plunkett? And of course he can, it ain't easy--but, it's not impossible.

Ron is now the manager of the Washtenaw Alano Club. He is being abusive to the employees there and making the club look bad. He should be fired for his actions there. He is on a power trip there and seems to have forgotten how lucky he is to have a job. Step down Ron or shape up!
