Juror Steals the Exhibit!

Here's a strange story from the Fresno Bee:

A Fresno,[ California] juror who voted to convict a killer now finds herself on the other side of the law, accused of stealing a piece of evidence - a video game console.  In November, Elizabeth Acuna was part of a panel that cleared Antonio Garcia of a murder charge in Fresno County Superior Court, but found him guilty of manslaughter in the 2007 shooting death of 16-year-old Steven Keffel in southwest Fresno.

Three months after the verdict, Acuna confessed to stealing a court exhibit - a Sony PSP game console, according to a court affidavit in support of a warrant to arrest her. She will be arraigned this month on a felony theft charge. Free on bail, Acuna declined to comment. But Keffel's mother, Karen Avery, had some choice words.  'This is totally ridiculous,'  Avery said."

Can't say I ever encountered that scenario.

Although I can easily see how it could happen there is very lax security with jurors around exhibits.  But what must you be thinking as a juror?  This specific juror does gives a reason and you can read more about what she was thinking, but I find it fairly incoherent reason, nothing that really makes any sense.  Strange.

  1. Acuna continuous to be a thief and liar! has spent half her adult life living off of grandparents and stealing from them directly from their bank accounts. Forgery is also a part of her life-if the courts would have not let her go free she would of made her grandparents retired lives a good one. How is our system so messed up it won't even help Elders? Take this supposedly woman and put her where she belongs locked away in jail! Who's the district attorney?

  2. As someone who knows the family of Acuna, I can add that Elizabeth continues to lie and steal from her family. She was just kicked out of CAP rehab and continues to welch off her recently widowed grandmother. She doesn't care about anyone but herself. Same as usual!
