Ohio to Twitter Execution News--How Charming!

The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that those charming folks at the State of Ohio Department of Corrections are exploring the possibility of utilizing Twitter to disseminate execution announcements.  How completely thoughtful of them!

  1. That is just delightful. Morbidly fascinating, but horrid. America!

  2. Isn't this just the best! Maybe they can do a facebook page where you can "friend" them, or become a fan?

  3. The return of public executions...but you know, in a weird way (and I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here) it might make people more aware of how horrible capital punishment is.

Or, it might make them get really into it, and demand live streaming video...

    Sigh. Probably the latter.

  4. I was just reading the Salt Lake City Tribune, they're about to execute a killer with the firing squad, again, a la Gary Gilmore. Creepy. I've always suspected that there's a market for "execution porn." By the way, this post got picked up by Above the Law, the national "blawg." I suspected the combination fo death penalty and social media was going to raise eyebrows.

  5. I'd pay for a PPV execution telecast. These murderers are for the most part pure scum. I would have enjoyed watching them strap Ted Bundy to Old Sparky and light him up.

  6. The death penalty isn't about putting to death someone who deserves it, many deserve it. What we need to ask is how do we justify killing someone, especially when those we condemn to die often prove to be innocent of the crimes we convict them for. AJ

  7. DRC is full of ass clowns that want to be the news. Amazing this comes a week after the Library of Congress announced all Tweets since 2006 are going to the LOC so the "future" can see how technology changed. The death penalty does not deter crime, and is a GIANT waste of money that could be used for let's say EDUCATION!

  9. Your Holiness makes a real good point re: Starbucks rehab design and perhaps the appropriateness of the ultimate penalty.
