Attorneys Are Prostitutes! No They Aren't. Wanna Bet?!

This lovely young woman was busted for prostitution.  Turns out she's a Sycamore, Illinois attorney.  This is the link to her law firm website. Here's an excerpt from the Dekalb Daily Chronicle account of Ms. Bajaj's arrest (with acknowledgement to the ABAJournal):

A Sycamore attorney turned herself in to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday after a warrant was issued charging her with prostitution.
Reema N. Bajaj, 25, of the 100 block of Penny Lane in Sycamore, is charged with three counts of prostitution, stemming from two incidents Aug. 13 and another May 10.  [ . . .]

DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler said Bajaj's arrest followed an investigation into an unrelated case where detectives discovered emails sent between Bajaj, a suspect in an unrelated case, and a DeKalb man. Spangler said the emails were explicit regarding the arrangements and led to two of the prostitution counts from Aug. 13.

Those counts contend that Bajaj offered to perform a sexual act for $100 – a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail – and that the act was committed within 1,000 feet of a school – a Class 4 felony punishable by up to three years in prison. [ . . . ]Trevarthen said Bajaj admitted to engaging in prostitution before she became a licensed attorney last November, but that she denied such activity since then. The evidence, Trevarthen said, says otherwise, as she was charged with one count of prostitution from May 10.

Got to like the fact that Attorney Bajaj was a prostitute until she found something "better."  I'd say she gives the profession a black eye, but plenty of us having been doing that all along, including BigLaw, politicians with law licenses, certain Judges and some Supreme Court Justices.

Upon reflection, good luck to Ms. Baja, here's hoping she can put this in her past and possibly move on, having learned life lessons that she can compassionately share with clients and others.

  2. Or she might just be acquitted because the state's proof of the crime is based on hearsay and they will not be able to prove the actual counts they have. BTW Instead of coming up with snide headlines do a little REAL fact checking and find out why the state is not charging the John (who allegedly is a white male) with anything? The real story is in what isn't reported, but then you wouldn't understand that, it's more fun sitting in your living room coming up with smart ass blog post titles isn't it?

  3. Maybe this is personal. Anyone ever think that this was a ploy to ruin a young woman. The alleged John was caught viewing child porn. He is a white male who lied to save his own skin. There have been no charges against him. Instead of smearing her we should her. There are some serious civil suits to be filed against dekalb county state's attorney office, clay, and Julie trevarthen. Also azhar minhas who let her go bc of the charges bc she didn't have time to tell him. Shame on everyone who is leaving her side. This should be a time to support not leave. I guess it's guilty until proven innocent. I am in your corner Reema. I am writing to all those people. I will contact you soon to start working on the civil cases. You didn't do anything you ARE innocent.

    1. i know this is a long long time ago now, but I do see this as someone who wanted to ruin her name and ruin her good standing.

it IS sad to see this happen to a great lady. I got to know her breifly and she was confiden, driven to success, and had dreams to open her own practice. It's sad that once it happened someone had a spoon up their butt and wanted to ruin her.

while i know she liked to take photographs taken of her, she still was very picky about who she was with. not sexually but even in her friends and colleagues.

I was saddened to see this (now 2014) that this happeend to her, the last we communicated was back in 2010 and she just dissapeared.

I do hope she gets back on track and continues her dream, it sucks that one dooshbag ruined it for her, just so he can get back at her in some way.

  4. Anon--

You caused me to reevaluate this situation. Yes, . . . who should cast the first stone, ceertainly not me. Your friend has a tremendous opportunity to survive and grow through this if she has the capacity to be honest. But like a recovering person of any sort she needs to take certain steps. If she can survive this--and I would suggest that she get active with an Illinois Bar Association Assistance Program--then she stands in a remarkable position to help others.

    Good luck to her.

  5. If she had just went along with the arranged marriage her parents set up, instead of getting into this law-talking stuff, none of this would have happened.

Best of luck to the very attractive and at least book-smart Ms. Bajaj.

  7. Rhee Bajaj imo was always a classy lady. But seeing that some people don't understand indian families, some will just cut their children off of any financial means regardless of 'their' dreams.

Maybe Bob is right, she could've taken an arranged marriage, but then what? she loses her dream? It's sad that in this country (the melting pot) we still don't give women chances to reach their goals in a way that's fair and just and be considered equal to men in pay and approval.

Even if she slept with the people mentioned, so? does this make her a slut, a prostitute? How about men who've done questionable acts. But because this person is a woman and INDIAN we throw her to the frigging wolves?

I think this lady just chose the wrong person and they judged her on morals and morality, bottom line, it was her body and hers alone, if she wanted to do this, then so be it.

I mean if you're pissed cuz you didn't see her boobs that's your problem.
